A note · on the human side of advice

AI Is Not Just Coming for Tasks. It Is Coming for Your Identity.

For years, many professionals built their value around what they knew.

The answer. The analysis. The recommendation. The technical explanation. The polished deliverable.

Now AI can generate much of that.

So the deeper question underneath the job disruption conversation is not only:

“Will AI replace me?”

It is:

“If AI can do what made me feel valuable, who do I become next?”

I think this is one of the most important professional questions of our time.

Especially in advice-based industries.

Because the future of human value will not be built on competing with AI at information processing.

It will be built on the things AI cannot fully carry:

Judgment. Context. Trust. Ethics. Presence. Discernment. Relationship. Meaning. The ability to read what is not being said.

In wealth management, this matters deeply.

AI may help advisors analyze, summarize, model, draft, and prepare.

But when a client is navigating divorce, retirement, loss, caregiving, advisor change, sudden wealth, or family complexity, the value of the advisor is not just the answer.

It is the ability to help that answer land inside a real human life.

That requires more than information.

It requires understanding what the client is carrying, what they are afraid to say, what feels urgent but may need space, and what kind of guidance will actually help them move forward.

That is where I believe the future of advice is headed.

Not less human because of AI.

More human because of what AI forces us to finally value.

And maybe that is the real opportunity.

Not to prove we can outprocess the machine.

But to become more skilled at the parts of advice that were never only about processing in the first place.

If you work in wealth management, where do you see this shift showing up most clearly right now?
